About Orange County Food and Beverage Collaborative

Orange County, not unlike many communities in Virginia and around the nation, has been hit hard by the COVID pandemic. The hospitality industry, in particular, has felt the effects as it relies on both local support and tourism to survive. As we are heading toward better health, it has given us the opportunity to reflect on the last couple of years. Our collective restaurants have survived, as in remained in business throughout, adopting changes along the way to adapt to the situation. Local support has been huge, especially at the beginning, and tourists are beginning to return to Orange and have been lending their support.

This collaborative group of restaurateurs, chefs and event rental businesses have all dealt with staff shortages, reluctance on the part of the public to dine in or plan an event and concern about the general health of all. We have talked amongst ourselves about our particular challenges and possible solutions and from those conversations the idea to do a collaborative event came to be. We all feel that we need to band together and that in a small community like this, connection is so important.

So there you have it. A small idea from this founding group has now come to fruition. We see this as a chance to join together to put on a special event showcasing local purveyors and our own individual talents, doing what we are passionate about in the form of a collaborative wine and cocktail pairing dinner. It is all about supporting local business and the community.

We also see this as a kick-off to future events — more dinners featuring other chefs in Orange hosted in different locations, maybe an outdoor dinner event — the sky’s the limit. Perhaps the collaborative group will become a foundation for a local restaurant association that can work together to reach our common goals.

This is just the beginning.
