The James Madison Museum of Orange County Heritage

The James Madison Museum of Orange County Heritage serves the community by collecting and preserving the artifacts and cultural heritage of 18th, 19th and 20th century Orange and the Piedmont of Virginia. It offers exhibits and other presentations that promote an awareness and appreciation of that heritage. The museum memorializes, in particular, James Madison of Orange County, fourth President of the United States, his life and times, and in his interest in and contributions to the fields of political theory and government, economics and agriculture.

In the Hall of Agriculture & Transportation, which is where the fundraising event will take place, guests enjoy the large collection of agricultural implements and 1732 cube house; testaments to the agrarian history of Orange. The Black History Room conveys the intertwined history of Black Americans from the American Revolution onward through Post-Emancipation. The Madison Room displays numerous possessions of James Madison and Zachary Taylor; along with artifacts of each of the eight Virginia-born presidents. The Native American exhibit will hopefully inspire guests to learn more about the first Americans and encourage research, education and dialogue. The Temporary Exhibit Room changes every few months, so come see what’s on exhibit today!

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located in Orange, Virginia. Visit the museum’s website for additional information.
